Jack Bradley - Jazz Photographer

Satchmo and Jack D

Photo of Louis Armstrong and Jack Bradley taken by Lucille Armstrong in 1963 at Jack's club, Bourbon Street, New York City.

Jack Bradley -- Satchmo's close friend -- is a noted jazz photographer and writer, and the foremost collector of Louis Armstrong material. Since 1951, Jack has documented the careers of many of the world's greatest jazz artists -- especially that of Louis Armstrong -- and managed such jazz greats as Erroll Garner and Bobby Hackett. During the 1960's he founded the New York Hot Jazz Society and was a co-founder of the New York Jazz Museum. Jack has written articles for most of the leading jazz magazines and journals including Coda, down beat, The Mississippi Rag, and the Jazz Journal of London. His first article, which covered the first Newport Jazz Festival, was written to obtain a free pass to the Festival and appeared in the New Bedford Standard Times (1954). Jack was an early advocate and staunch lobbyist for the U.S. Louis Armstrong stamp, finally issued in 1995. Aside from his love of jazz, Captain Jack Bradley also loves the sea. A graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Jack runs a nifty charter service aboard his 35' Southern Cross cutter which sails New England waters from Cape Cod to Nantucket, and to many other points of the compass. So, if you're interested in jazz, jazz memoribilia -- including instruments, sheet music, records, books, periodicals, vintage photos and 16mm footage -- or sailing; give Jack a call at:
