Roots of the Quartet date from 1985 when the late Ken Goddard, Owen Kiernan and John Ciccolo formed a trio to play the old songs of ragtime, blues, jazz and swing for nursing homes, schools, and for civic events.

Ken had formed a band in a WW2 P.O.W. camp obtaining his first set of drums from the Red Cross. Owen, who had a distinguished career as an educator, managed to keep up his piano playing over the years. John had formed a jazz quartet in 1927 and subsequently played clarinet and saxophone with Bobby Hackett, Ted Roy, Red Allen and others during the 1930's. The group claimed as many as nine members by 1988.

The current members of the group - John, Russ Fichera, Mel Pauze and George Souza - first played together in the fall of 1994. Russ and Mel retired from the Boston area several years ago and had played together for a number of years in 'The Meltones'. George Souza is a Cape Cod institution having served as Falmouth's shellfish officer for more than 30 years; the sound of his guitar is well-known over the region.

The group plays at schools, nursing homes and clubs on Cape Cod.
